REVIEW: Thomas Headon charms Paris at landmark Les Etoiles show

Thomas Headon is not very good at French. He is, however, very good at making Les Etoiles in Paris his own on Friday night.

The 23-year-old’s set at the renowned Parisian venue is his first headline show on the continent, but there’s nothing amateur about the hour of hits the star rattles off with a whole lot of charisma.

Headon has spent much of 2023 on the road, touring the UK and USA and it’s a polished performance that arrives on his final string of dates this year in Europe. Towards the end of the night a smirk covers his face as he leans into fan-favourite ‘Wet Tongue’ – you can’t help but feel Headon knows the track slaps, and he is not wrong.

That is certainly one of the highlights of the night but what is so great about the rising star’s catalogue is it’s clear every member of the audience has their own favourite. ‘W4NNA DO’ is met with a wall of sound early on and ‘i loved a boy’ is treated to a fan project that sees a sea of colours illuminate the air.

Headon’s catalogue is trademarked by quotable lyrics and earworm hooks, so it’s no real surprise to see him make Taylor Swift smash ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ and Hannah Montana hit ‘The Best of Both Worlds’ his own with two very clever covers.

Other moments to saviour come with the bouncing ‘2009 TOYOTA’ and as he jumps down into the crowd for a rendition of ‘Butterflies’. The track that tops them all is ‘Georgia’, the callbacks to which it sounds like the French crowd have been praciting for weeks – it’s the type of song that would sound great whichever venue it’s played in, be it the local pub or a stadium show.

It’s very easy to understand the fast-growing hype around Thomas Headon. The singer/songwriter has his finger on a pop pulse and fans will always forgive the corny French baguette jokes when delivered with a charm you can’t help but love.
