Novak Djokovic is claiming that he was never an anti-vaxer in spite of his previous controversies involving his refusal to get the COVID vaccine.

“I was never anti-vax,” he said. “I was always pro-freedom-to-choose. And that’s something that we took really for granted. I didn’t feel like a lot of people had a choice, really.”

In 2022, Novak made headlines when he was deported from Australia, thus barring him from participating in the Australian Open, due to his vaccine status.

Novak was disqualified from multiple major tournaments, including the 2022 U.S. Open, Miami Open, and BNP Paribas Open, as foreign citizens not vaccinated against COVID were not allowed to enter the United States.

Now back on the court and his vaccine controversies seemingly behind him, Novak has returned to form, having won his 24th Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open on Sunday (September 10).

See what Novak Djokovic had to say about skipping tournaments over his vaccine refusal.
