Tracy Chapman Reacts To Luke Combs’ ‘Fast Car’ Cover Taking Over Country Airplay

Luke Combs has hit streaming gold with his cover of “Fast Car” – and now the original singer and songwriter, Tracy Chapman, is reacting.

The country star’s rendition of the hit song from 1988 broke a 42-year-long record on Billboard’s charts.

Speaking to Billboard, Tracy said that she “never expected to find myself on the country charts, but I’m honored to be there,” adding, “I’m happy for Luke and his success and grateful that new fans have found and embraced ‘Fast Car.’”

Luke is the first artist to actually take the cover of “Fast Car” to a no. 1 spot, but not the first to actually cover it.

Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, Khalid, and Jonas Blue feat. Dakota have also covered the track.
